Black is the new Black – Lookbook

Hello everyone. I hope you all are doing great! Spring has started here and it’s starting to become warmer which is great! I’ve had enough of the cold climate ❄️.

On that bright note, here is my lookbook on the darkest colour! Black … the darkest colour to exist, often considered as a symbol of evil and sadness. But to me, black is a happy colour, black is confident and black is beautiful.

Look 1 – Sporty

For my first look, I choose to wear one of my favourite outfits. A sporty outfit that I wear all the time!

The sweatshirt is an Adidas NEO sport style graphic sweatshirt that I got from koovs. I choose to wear pants instead of jeans cause I felt that jeans might not go well with the whole sporty look. The material is soft, fitting and super comfortable. I bought this pair of pants 3 years ago and they still look like new!

Hint: When going for a sporty look, make sure to choose comfortable, stretchy fabric and dress it down with subtle designs.

To complete the look, I wore a pair of white sneakers and my favorite accessory …. my Adidas snapback that I bought in Changi international airport – Singapore. I wore a black grunge ring to add more texture to the look; it builds up on the geometric designs of the sweatshirt.

Look 2 – Leather chic

My second look involves one of my favorite pieces of clothing , a ZARA stud top.

The front of the top is made up of a leather panel embellished with silver studs and the rest of the top is knitted which makes it soft and super comfortable. After all, it is from the knitwear collection! I wore the same pair of pants and white sneakers from the previous look.

I added some silver rings and a pair of black earrings to make the look more chic. I also wore my favorite silver Pierre Cardin bracelet.

Look 3 – Spring Bloom

This look is totally black but has a bit of brightness to it that’s brought by the floral patches. Reminds me of flowers blooming in spring …!

This black floral bodysuit has two bright pink, red and green floral patches on the bodice. I wore the bodysuit with a simple pair of jeans. I would suggest wearing it with a pair of high waisted jeans, as bodysuits look more trendy with a pair of high waisted jeans.

To complete the look I wore the same pair of sneakers, a pair of my favorite triangle shaped Swarovski earrings and a couple of cute silver rings.

Look 4 – Simple but bold

A look that works both as a casual and as a party outfit. It would work perfect for events, parties and even for a family dinner.

The main highlight of the outfit is the striped skirt from ZARA. It’s a simple skirt with black, silver and black stripes. To keep the look simple I paired it with a black tee.

I wore my black vans for the look because my black silver pointed flats had broken at the time of the shoot and I could not get a new pair of shoes. I would suggest wearing ballet flats like the one below (from ASOS) or a pair of black stilettos with such a look.

(ASOS LEGACY ballet flats)

Hint: Never overpower an outfit. Let the subtle prints and the simple designs stand out. Accentuate the look with a few pieces of jewellery and accessories, like a small simple clutch or purse.

Since the tee is plain , I wore a clear blue – purple quartz pendant to add a pop of colour. I also wore the same silver rings and Swarovski earrings from the previous look.

I usually do not wear makeup, so I kept the makeup minimal for all the looks. I went with some Maybelline Colossal kajal, Australis Fierce Eyes Volumising Mascara some Megalast lip colour from wet n wild beauty for the makeup.

I hope you guys loved the lookbook! Make sure to leave suggestions and comments below because I know there’s a huge room for improvement. I know that the last 2 looks have very few pictures but I have more footage of those looks for the lookbook video ( which I will be uploading soon). Show me your black inspired looks and tag me on Instagram with @thedesigirl.slg . Have a great day, keep smiling! See you soon❤️✨.
